Dump The Junk…in your money mindset

Not enough money coming in? That is the #1 excuse people give me for why they are holding off on their dreams. #2 is “not enough time” and BOTH stem from a lack mentality. In order to truly feel wealthy, you have to feel abundant. No, you have to KNOW you are abundant, that there will always been enough for those things that are important to you.

But society, family culture, and advertising teach us that we are not enough. We don’t have enough, there isn’t enough to go around and there is limited supply. This is a fear-based tactic…focus on the lack. This thinking is called emotional junk. And when you “see” the junk, you are empowered to dump the junk! And dumping the “life junk” is the fastest route to happiness, based on the principle that you have to make room for new fresh stuff to come in and that means clearing out the old thoughts and beliefs that aren’t working.

This works for everything! It is especially true for money and wealth mindset. If you know anything about the Law of Attraction (LoA) you know that focusing on lack only brings about more lack. Try something new and focus on the abundance in your life.

Living a prosperous, wealthy life doesn’t mean having lots of money. It is much larger than that. However, money is a big part of it. If you want wealth, think wealthy thoughts!

Here are 3 ways to dump the junk (the fear and lack mindset) and replace it with a thriving, abundant mindset:

  1. Look around at everything you already own. Focus on the value of what you have in your life already. If you want to go a step further and really feel the wealthy, go through and place a post-it note with the price you paid on everything. TV, furniture, appliances, shoes, handbags, computers, cell phones, do this for anything and everything. You’ll see very quickly how much value you already hold in your life, especially if you’re really focused on the price tag of things.
  2. “Act Rich”. This requires that you first get to the bottom of what you think “rich” people act like. Everyone has a different definition. Some people see wealth as having a lot of nice fluffy towels, or expensive sheets to sleep on. And others view it as always being well groomed and having nice manners. What does wealth mean to you? Then act like it, without spending money. Make the effort to put on makeup in the morning, give yourself a pedicure, clean your house, wax your car…anything you need to do feel “rich.”
  3. Create a Wealth List. List 10 things in your life that you are thankful for, relating to money. Thankful for a job that pays your bills, thankful for health insurance, thankful for a warm, comfortable bed, whatever it is, WRITE IT DOWN! Do this every evening for 10 days and see how your perspective has changed.

Those are just a few ways for you to change your perspective on wealth and money. Remember that “wealth” doesn’t just mean having lots of money, it includes family, friends, sense of community, health and well-being too! Focus on all the ways you’re already wealthy, and you realize that you don’t need anything else. That is when you have dumped the junk…and ARE happy. This is an ongoing process. Even the best in personal development understand that life is about the journey, not the destination and that growth in continual.

4 Tips to Create a Wealthy Money Mindset

I had the most amazing weekend!

I met with my business coach for a 2 day business retreat. We covered a lot of ground and I left with a pile of new ideas on how to keep my business flowing along almost on it’s own.

I also picked up my new puppy, Nixie! She is so sweet and has the happiest temperament, I can’t wait until she is fully comfortable and part of the family…until then I’m quite content to walk her 3 times a day and teach her to play fetch.

I had a discussion with Gina (my coach) about happiness and how it’s the small things that count in life. Things like funny socks and colored pens add a lot of joy, if you take time to open your awareness to them. Or you might have a things for nature, flowers, children, pets….whatever it is, often we’re so wrapped up in the daily grind that we don’t take time to “smell the roses.”

And “smelling the roses” is where the good life is.

A lot has to do with worry over money. Especially right now, a lot of you are trying your best to focus on better things (things that make you happy) but having trouble completely getting there because money is always on the back of your mind.

I have a few suggestions to help. More money doesn’t always equal more happiness. There are scientific studies that prove this! And if you look around you can see people with more than you who are miserable (look in the media or at celebrities whose lives are falling apart) and there are people with less than you who are happier. It’s not about money. If you want to feel really good and add to your happiness, give some money away!

  1. Tip your waitress and extra dollar or two, and be thankful you can.
  2. Volunteer your time at a church, food kitchen or animal shelter. Seeing those with less than you can also make you feel grateful.
  3. Define real wealth…to YOU! Wealth is more than money. Create your wealth vision. It probably includes friends, family members, a great career, safe and comfortable home, healthy body…it’s your life, you define wealth.
  4. Create a Wealth Gratitude List. Each night come up with 10 things relating to wealth that you feel grateful for, it may be hard at first but over time it will get easier and you’ll be more appreciative (which means happier!)

This takes a bit of practice, but is is fun. Take some time out and treasure the small things before it’s too late. I see a huge need for this topic to be covered, and not one single person is talking about this! So I am going to take it on.   • “I could barely get out of bed this morning, I hate my job! (Grrrr) I wish I could quit…
  • “Yikes, huge project due tomorrow and once again, I’m the only one working late. So glad the rest of my colleagues care [sarcasm]. I wish I could quit…
  • “I just had the most horrible customer! I hate everything about this job. I hate the uniform, I hate the staff, I hate the stupid store! I wish I could quit…

Any of those sound like you?

Then it’s followed by a barrage of excuses:

  • I have bills to pay.
  • I’m saving for a trip to Europe.
  • It’s a really bad time to think about changing job, I’m lucky to still have a job.
  • The economy is scary right now.
  • My family depends on me.
  • I can’t afford to back to school.

Whatever your reason, this is your situation:

You really really hate your job, but can’t quit.

I completely get it, I have had some jobs that really got to me. In fact, I worked all the way through University and NEVER held a job for more than 11 months. Yep, I just couldn’t make it to that 1 year mark. Eventually I had to get out.

So right now, I see two kinds of teachings out there:

  1. The “Just Quit”group, who says that no job is worth that much anxiety or negative energy. For the most part, I would put myself in this category.
  2. The “Just Stay” group who says that it’s your job and work isn’t supposed to be fun, so get used to it and suck it up.

I prefer to take a different approach to this topic and combine the two. See, the problem is that you want to quit, but can’t. So what if (crazy idea coming on here), I can teach you some tricks to be happy, even though you hate your job?

What if we can get to the bottom of it? What if, you can be happy at work even if you really hate your job and want to quit?

So I’m changing attitudes and perspectives everywhere!

And I didn’t quit. I didn’t change jobs or get a promotion. BUT I DID change my attitude (which is all anyone can really do).

How do you feel about your house? Feng Shui and Clutter

I just finished a week of mini-renos so that I could switch our guest bedroom with my office. Now I have a new office, new paint, a new layout, and a new outlook! Literally, just by paying attention to my space, and what kind of energy I’m sending out into the world, I’ve change my path. It’s really easy. This is a 6 minute video to help you do the same. Plus, I share the quickest, easiest thing you can possibly do to change your flow of money.

(Hint: In feng shui, red stimulates (fire) and blue cools (water).  This is exactly what you want to happen where money and bills are concerned).

Grass is Always Greener Syndrome

This is part of the big, bad, ugly limiting belief family.pulling hair out

Except that it doesn’t look like a limiting belief, which makes it hard to recognize.

I mean, you’d think that “not settling”  and being cautious was a good thing, right?

Right.

Except that sometimes your cowering ego (and by You, I really mean ME) will trick you into thinking that by proceeding you’re settling.

This makes more sense as a true life example.

January has been a tiny bit rocky for me. Nothing catastrophic, or even traumatic, but I seem to be finding excuses to Not Do what I’m “supposed” to be doing.

I listened to my Authentic Self.

She said take a Facebook Break (Oh, and ditch the format of a program that wasn’t working!). Done and done.

But there was still something bugging me, then WAM! Like running into a boulder, I felt it. You know that feeling from when you were a kid and you fell off your bike and had the wind knocked out of you (or maybe that was just me, as a clumsy kid who rode too fast).

It came on fast, but it was gripping!

I was going along, slowly and cautiously. Which is actually quite unlike me. I deal with limiting beliefs A LOT, both in myself and my clients. My process involves acknowledging them, and either letting them be or doing the exact thing I’m afraid of.

mean milWell, then I had a mini-troll. Leaving out details, she told me that I was harming the coaching profession by not educating myself as a coach.

Excuse me?

No where have I claimed to be a “certified” coach. I don’t need to be with my background. It’s in the cards, but I have other things to do.

I don’t think I’ve harmed anyone. Not intentionally. My mission is to spread love, compassion, strength and growth. I also think (and have been told by MANY!) that having a B.A in Psychology and a background in educational psychology, that I know a thing or two about how our brains work, as well as cognitive theory, and all that other stuff.

My ego flared up, and she hurt me, but in a matter of hours I was fine again.

Or so I thought.

What happened is that she brought up my most ugliest limiting belief: You’re not good enough.

I’ve suffered from that one since grade school. (Getting a little revealing here, but that’s part of being authentic. Can’t just talk the talk…gotta walk it too!)

I recognized it, and sought the support needed to deal with it. (HELLO! Best Friend, and Biz Coach….done and dealt with. Or so I thought.)

It wasn’t quite dealt with yet. It was that exact belief that caused: Grass Is Always Greener Syndrome.

When you don’t feel like you’re enough…you’re constantly seeking outwards to find it. Programs, books, coaches…those are all good as long as you recognize the fact that YOU are perfect the way you are right now. But it’s a double edged sword, because you might be confronted with exactly what you need and be too afraid to jump on the opportunity. It happens ALL THE TIME!

Just like that! I realized that ms. mini troll was deflecting her own failure as a coach on me, and that in fact I am good enough…and I have loads of clients and testimonials to prove it.

I’ll finally get to the point. This insignificant person in my life (I have never heard of her before, and I will never again), had the ability to flare up that limiting belief and then turn it into something that nearly caused me to make a huge mistake: Doubt myself.

I began to doubt the decision I made to enter a high end mastermind group (we’re talkin’ 5 figure quality).

To the normal person, this does sound crazy (who pays that much to get coached? The answer: successful people who want action and results FAST!).

BUT because I had this limiting belief, I had a fear that by entering into this one program (and taking on the monthly payments of it) I was cutting off my ability to do other programs. See…grass is always greener.

When talking to the coach about it, I even used the term “Afraid to put all of my financial eggs in one basket.”

Did you notice the limited (and lack) language I used. And I was aware of it! (but so confused I could think straight any more)

So I set the intention last night to ask my authentic self to give me the answer, in a clear, loving way so that there was no doubt in my mind around what I should do (enter the mastermind or not).

I got my answer loud and clear this morning, and put the down payment through.

And the truth is, besides clearing out another layer of that nasty limiting belief and exposing more light on it, I’ve also showed the Universe how much faith I have in myself, and the fact that Yes, I do practice what I preach, thank you very much!

  1. The Universe is abundant. There is no such think as lack.
  2. I am an awesome human being who deserves to be happy, just because. (Same goes for YOU!)
  3. Money is just energy.
  4. Energy is always flowing
  5. Therefore, money is always flowing (assuming I don’t cut it off with fear and lack mentality).

Another truth…I went through a similar fear when hiring my business coach for the first time (as well as buying my house, paying down my student loan and buying my car). And yet, I have never ever lacked money. Not since I started working. Everything has always been paid for.  Just goes to show you that when you stretch…the Universe fills in the gaps.

butterfliesSo there you go. My version of the Grass is Always Greener Syndrome, how the fear of settling nearly cost me a year in business growth, and how I over came it. I have no idea what the point of this post is supposed to be, other than to share with you my authentic self.

Maybe it’s supposed to help you grow, maybe you’ll start to feel that you’re not alone! I hope it does at least one of those.


Abundance and the Authentic Self

For those of you who are struggling with money right now, I have some advice that I gave to a client recently. You need to change your money mindset and start viewing money as a relationship, rather than a physical thing, because it isn’t physical. It’s pure energy. Think about it. Especially now, credit cards and debit cards are used more than ever, physical money is not used nearly as often. You go to work and spend your energy to get a pay check, which you then transfer to buy things. You are simply exchanging one form of energy for another.
I have a few tips to help you update your money mindset:
  • Life is completely about priorities once you are aware of it, it works for you. Right now, food, gas and heat are priorities…extra stuff is not. It really is that simple. When you begin to bring more money into your life, you will be able to add priorities. Get your priorities straight right now. Know your top 3, and live according to those every single day. Reassess monthly.

  • Morgana Rae talks about creating relationships with money. She has a really fun process. Check out http://www.abundanceandprosperity.com/ to learn more about her process of changing money from a monster to a honey. (It’s not as crazy as it sounds).
  • potofgoldWhen you buy anything this week, or pay any bills, do it with a Gratitude Attitude. Consciously thank God / the Universe and your money for providing you with the funds for this opportunity. Do this for everything for 7 days. Then check in with yourself. Keep a record of thoughts and feelings as you paid for stuff and review it. Make adjustments as necessary and keep thanking every time you spend money. You need to get into a gratitude mindset because what you give, multiplies. So if you are worried and afraid every time you pay your power bill, guess what…more worry and fear the next month. “Thank You, money! For allowing me to pay this bill and be warm one more month!”

  • Also, every night for 30 days write down 10 things you are thankful for, and once a week specifically write 10 things you are thankful for about money.

  • Do EFT for 30 days around any money blocks you have: “Not having enough.” “Money is bad.” “Rich people are greedy.” “Money doesn’t grow on trees…”  Get a free EFT manual here: http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp

  • Surround yourself with thoughts of money, gratitude, and wealth. Write down exactly what you think a wealthy person acts like, and start to act that way. If you think rich people purchase without worry, then purchase your priorities without worry! You have a budget, so you should know exactly what you can spend without causing problems.  If you think rich people dress nicely and take good care of themselves, do that (Get creative. There are ways to do this without spending money).

  • Get all of your debt repayments working automatically so you don’t think about them (that’s what I do) and focus on your money. When you get a paycheque, feel great about it.

  • Lastly, only watch TV and read stuff relating to wealth, money, and rich people. I love to watch Sex and The City! I also have huge numbers of books relating to wealthy people, how they think, how they act, and I love biographies of rich people. It gets you thinking the way they do.

I know this stuff is simple and it will take some time, but those are the tips I personally use and I am happier, wealthier and more successful than ever. They work if you are willing to try them, let go of fear (and any arguments for “why this won’t work), and open your heart. Your authentic self is wealthy, and you are meant to have abundance. Change your mindset and start claiming your wealth now.

“Real wealth is what is left over when you have no money.” k.e    Take care of your relationships and your body, and feel good about yourself. Wealth follows love and health.

Authentic Self Tip #3 — My Secret is out of the bag

After a lot of contemplation (ok, not really ;-) ) I have decided to let you know my #1 secret for being so darn happy all the time, as well as how I have become wealthier and healthier too.potofgold

It’s actually really, really simple but here it is: I follow the actions of people who are already successful, happy, healthy and wealthy. That’s it.

  • I read A LOT! (a book a week — all to do with success, wealth and happiness)
  • I listen and participate in every free teleseminar that I can get my hands on
  • I am on at least 10 newsletter lists (and I actually read them). They always offer great articles and insight into the successful mindset
  • I read a lot of articles recommended by my Facebook friends and people I follow on Twitter
  • I watch video blogs on success
  • I invest in myself. I invest in my happiness, health and success because I value myself. I’m not spending money selfishly, I am investing in my future happiness.

That is my action plan. I also have my own coach and an accountability partner, as well as a new mastermind coming up. I completely surround myself with success. That has forced me to check my mindset, change my perspective and grow immensely (it takes a lot of growth to keep up with successful people!).

If I had to choose just one thing that expanded my growth like nothing else (and I don’t like to share it with people) it was a program on the Law of Attraction that I participated in. Talk about opening up my mind to possibilities!

So the cat is out of the bag — I spend 70% of my time getting other people’s opinions, ideas and thoughts. This doesn’t mean that I agree with everything, but it definitely gets my mind working and my spirit growing. Careers I

Careers and authenticity, sure they go together if you love your job but with statistics saying that almost 60% of people hate their jobs, how can you possibly be happy in the rest of your life!

There is a way to do it. It’s not easy, actually it takes a lot of mind work and connecting with your inner spirit, but if you really dislike your job and really can’t quit, it’s the only option.

Instead of focusing directly on the items on the checklist, I am going to discuss my secret for achieving the items when you’re not satisfied, with your job, you hate your boss and your coworkers suck.
