Dump The Junk
I am on a personal mission, to dump my own junk and help others dump their’s. So far, so good
So…Dump The Junk. It’s a really catchy phrase and very accurate for what I do. So accurate in fact, that I’ve decided to do a free ebook with that very title. It’s still in the works, but I’m inviting some pretty fabulous experts to share how they dumped their junk and got to the place they are in life. Look for it in the next couple of months, published by the Center for Authentic Self Development.
I originally go this idea about a month ago, while brainstorming with my business coach. We were talking about my business, my services, my products — essentiall, what I “do” for people. I believe Gina said something like, “Kim, you help your clients dump the junk.”
We laughed and I knew immediately that that phrase sums up exactly what I do, perfectly!
It’s so important to clear out all the “stuff” or “junk” holding you back FIRST! If you don’t make room for what you want (more clothes, new job, new car, more money) it won’t come to you. Sometimes dumping the junk involves just being aware you have junk, and it goes away on it’s own. Sometimes you have to act to dump the junk.
Regardless of what you have to dump, you have to dump it and throw it out first or the new good “happy stuff” will just pass you by!
I’ll make sure that I let everyone know when Dump the Junk: The official guide to discovering your authentic life is finished. Can’t wait…it’s going to be good!

4 Great Paradoxes of a Great Life–Explained
Everything is about perspective. The happiest people, the ones who are the most successful and the wealthiest just found ways to make the world work for them. A paradox is when 2 ideas seem to directly oppose each other, and yet can both be true.
The most common example is the phrase: Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink! It may seem contradictory, after all, how can you be surrounded by water and not be able to drink it? So is the case if you are stranded in a life boat in the middle of the ocean. This statement would then be true, and make sense.
As you’re reading these ideas, relax and let the concepts sink it. Don’t fight them if you don’t understand or don’t agree. Hopefully, it will end up expanding your thinking and help you further discover your authentic life.
#1 Be selfish, but always Put the other person first. This is what got me in thinking of this topic. On one hand, I feel that it is most important to make yourself happy first because you can’t rely on others to do it for you. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean that I can’t make another feel good too. That is my understanding of this paradox. Overall, I hope to get to a place where I can be happy, no matter what, AND because of that others are happy around me. After all, it is so much nicer to be around someone who is joyful and content, rather than resentful or frustrated. So feel free to put your happiness first. When you are happy, you’re a great role model for those around you.
#2 Live in the moment, but Focus on your future. This is another one that has been rolling around in my head. I have noticed there are two crowds teaching the LoA, and they’re either saying to live in the moment and enjoy what is in front of you, or that you should focus on where you want to go, not where you are. So which statement is true? Well, both. The key to understanding this paradox is the underlying fact that you need to follow your feelings. Yes, enjoy the moment. Feel really good about where you are, while knowing that you’re headed in the right direction. If you don’t feel good about the moment, then view it as a small section of time in your life, focus on the small amount of good, and put the rest of your energy into aligning with how you will feel once you have manifested your dream life.
#3 Fake it to make it, but Be Authentic. This was something one of my mentors wrote about on her own blog and I loved it! I could help but add this one to my list. I have been an advocate for “fake it til you make it,” but only under certain circumstances. So how do you know when to fake it, and how can you still be authentic? The secret is all in knowing why. What do you want to be the outcome? That is, if you want to be successful in business, but are struggling, what do you want? You want to be successful. This is a great example for when you should fake it! Start by creating an office space that commands respect and says “Successful.” Then dress the part. The confidence will slowly follow, and so will the increase in business. By being clear on what you want, you can “fake it” but be authentic. I’m not saying that you should buy an office building, spend lots of money and jet around the world, because that’s what successful people do. Start slow and identify the core idea of success for you. Personally, I never want an office building and I really don’t want to jet around the world speaking at conferences. So that kind of “faking” would be inauthentic, even thought I might end up successful.
#4 Find joy in life by Embracing anger and resentment. This comes from one of my favorite all time paradoxes: No two things can occupy the same space at the same time. It’s impossible to be happy when you’re angry or upset, so pretending to be happy, pushing it down or faking won’t do anything but aggravate you. There is also a false understanding of happiness. Being happy doesn’t mean you don’t get mad. You can experience the entire range of emotions and still be happy. Being joyful means a couple of things: a) you have a trusting in the universe that things will work out (takes the pressure off you having to ‘control’ everything) b) you don’t take things too seriously c) you bounce back easily from disappointments (due to the first 2). Which means you can feel the anger, be disappointed, hate someone, want to throw something…and then recover quickly. Embrace the feeling instead of fighting it. You won’t have to fight it, it won’t hang around as long, and you’ll be a lot happier. Everything is about perspective. The happiest people, the ones who are the most successful and the wealthiest just found ways to make the world work for them, rather than feeling like it’s against them.
These are ideas that will help you find happiness, if you just embrace them., rather than feeling like it’s against them.

The How of Happiness: 10 Actions to Get You Started
If you studied the happiest people in the world, you would find commonalities among all of them. They view difficult circumstances differently than others. They worry less, feel guilty less and trust more. Happiness is learned, but like a muscle, you need to work it out. Here are 10 actions that you can take today, to start exercising your happiness muscles.
1.Let go of obligations
Sometimes you continue to do things just because you’ve always done them. This doesn’t mean that you have to continue to do them. What are you holding onto that you really resent? Let it go.
2. Say No
Say no when you mean no. Often you get into a habit of saying yes, because you always say yes, and then you later regret it. Set the intention to be aware of the things you’re agreeing too, and make sure that they align with what you want in life. If you absolutely must say yes to something you’re not thrilled about, change your perspective on it.
3.Change your mind
Sometimes circumstances change, impressions change, and people change. This is okay. You are not the same person you were 5 years ago, why do you have to stick with the same decisions? If you wish to switch directions in your life, give yourself permission to change your mind.
4. Question others
You are not a bad person for not agreeing with everyone, some people might just “set off” your intuition. Listen to that gut feeling. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Don’t try to force it.
5. Have your own opinion
That intuition is very important! Like in the above action, having your opinion is very important, it is what sets you apart from everyone else. You can agree with others, or disagree with them, as long as you have a very clear reason as to WHY you agree or disagree.
6. Make mistakes
Learning is growing, and you can’t learn if you’re perfect. Change your perspective on failure. Failure is not a bad thing, it gives you the opportunity to relax, try new things out, test yourself a bit. If you are perfect, you are not living up to your true potential. The more successful you are, the more mistakes you make.
7. Let “it” go
Just release whatever you’re holding on to. Whether a grudge, a relationships, a job or a dream, if it’s causing you pain or holding you back in life, you need to release it. There are many different methods to doing this, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), the Sedona Method and The Work are three well-known methods.
8. Love Yourself
This might be the hardest of all these actions, but it is also the most important. When you love yourself, all the other happiness actions follow. Look in the mirror daily and actually see the person looking back at you. Don’t judge her, just let her know you love and accept her. You are doing the best you can, at any given moment.
9. Seek a new story
Reassess that story you’ve been telling yourself. Is it true? Are you really a victim, simply not control of your situation at all? Can you really not do anything to change, because of something that happened in your past? Is bad luck the main factor in why you’re unhappy right now? Really? Change that story. Feature an empowered, happy and successful person who doesn’t let the past dictate the future.
10. Jump into the fear
This is difficult, there are times where you must calculate risks and there are times where you just have to jump right in without thinking too much. Your intuition will be key in this. I know that in my own life, any time I’ve been really excited about something, it’s come with fear. Are there opportunities in life that have you excited? Do you see greater potential for yourself, but let fear stop you? Don’t let that fear hold you back, find a way around it.

Those are just 10 steps to get you started. Being happy doesn’t mean you are never afraid, or angry, or frustrated. It means you have a resilience and a trust that others don’t, and that is something you can learn. This can be overwhelming and hard to deal with alone. If you are currently dreaming of changing careers, find love, or making a big change in your life, you’ll want to join me for the Happiness & Harmony Makeover, where I’m covering in detail exactly what to look out for AND how to become a happy person. Rejection is God’s Protection
“Rejection is God’s Protection”
Is that an awesome quote? I wish I could claim is as my own, but I got it from the book my Authentic Self Bookclub just finished reading, “Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out” By Marci Shimoff. Don’t let the fluffy title fool you, this is the best of ALL self help books combined. (I judged the title, and in fact, the books sat on myself for over 6 months before I decided to read it. I thought it was “just another book about happiness” SOOO NOT the case.)
Anyway, this blog post won’t be terribly profound, but I was thinking about the discussions we had last night about the book and I opened the book up to share a quote I loved (a different quote) and turned to this page. There it was shining back up at me.
You never know how stuff will work out in the long run, but if you believe in yourself and keep the faith, everything will work out. In fact, one of the main characteristics of happy people is that they believe the universe is out to support them.
So the next time you’re frustrated or worried about something not quite turning out the way you want it too (or flat out failure), just remember that rejection is God’s protection.
Have a great day everyone!
Kim
Happiness: It’s all about perspective
This ancient Chinese story speaks very loudly to the fact that the Law of Attraction works in ways we cannot possibly understand. Which is exactly why when you ask for something…you cannot get fixed on “the how,” or try to make it happen.
And old farmer used a horse to till his fields. One day, the horse ran away, and when the farmer’s neighbors sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer shrugged his shoulders and replied, “Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?”
A week later, the horse returned with a herd of wild mares, and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, “Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?”
Then, when the farmer’s son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell and broke his leg. Everyone agreed this was very bad luck. But the farmer’s only reaction was, “Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?”
A week later, the army marched into the village and drafted all the young men they could find. When they saw the farmers’ son with his broken leg, they let him stay behind. Good luck? Bad luck?
We can never know how a situation will turn out. When things don’t work out exactly as planned, happy people believe that what IS happening, is happening for the best. The Universe is out to support them. In hindsight, I have seen this happen in my life over and over again. I’m sure if you looked back, you would find the same is true for you.
Happiness is a choice, so you can either fight the “negative” circumstances, seeing them as bad luck, or you can relax and trust that what is coming will be in your favor.
If you need a little help doing this, join us for the Happiness & Harmony Makeover, on March 3rd where we explore this concept even further and guide you to the point where you can feel good when things don’t work out as planned.

Creating Your Million Dollar Story
Your Million Dollar Story doesn’t have to have anything to do with money. In fact, if you want to, you can live in a log cabin in the woods with your dog, writing romance novels…that would be considered a Million Dollar Story. In my Shine Your Inner Light life vision kit (to be released in May) I go into detail on how to craft a Million Dollar Story suited to you. I cover a few things quickly in this video, but also check out this week’s Authentic Self Expression radio if you want more information.
What do you think?
Remember to listen live on February 24, at 4:30 pm CST to hear more details on exactly how to create the Million Dollar mindset! http://blogtalkradio.com/authentic-self
What I’ve learned from the 2010 Olympics
I absolutely love the Olympics. For those couple of weeks every 2 years I am basically glued to the TV. Since I am not terribly athletic myself, I really admire the skill, determination and strength it takes to get to the games. And then there is the fact that it high-lights sports I would never hear about otherwise (I mean, really…how crazy is luge and skeleton!!! So cool…) Combine all that with a chance to cheer for the country I LOVE and I’m hooked!
But on Saturday, I was standing in my kitchen. The TV was on in the living room (my house is fairly open concept, so I can see the TV from my kitchen) and I heard the broadcasters high-lighting a player from Canada’s Olympic Women’s Hockey team. Her dad happens to be a sports psychologist and they were talking about the advise he would give her.
(not a direct quote, for emphasis purposes only)
“He’d say enjoy the moment. Don’t focus on the result because that takes you out of the moment.”
A man after my own heart apparently…or maybe I missed my calling and should have stuck with psychology
I’ve heard wisdom like that all week! Canada’s athletes are absolutely brilliant (at least the medal-winning ones) in their abilities to deal with pressure and stay focused and the speeds, distances and heights they are participating at. So I’ve come up with a short list of things that the average gal/guy can apply to our own lives.
- Live In The Moment.
This is the most prominent phrase so far. I’ve heard it over and over again. They’re all saying that the key to staying calm under such intense pressure, is to live in the moment. The moment you start focusing on the outcome, you feel stress, pressure, anxiety, overwhelm. You’re out of the moment, and your chances of winning are done.
So true in life, too. I know that when I am in the moment (the zone, the vortex, happy, whatever you want to call it) life flows really smoothly. I just do what needs to be done. I don’t add a story to it (Why can’t he pick up his darn socks for once! I’m not his maid…grumble grumble). I don’t start to think about what I need to do to be a total success in life. I don’t get overwhelmed. But the minute I over think stuff, it starts to get a little ugly. I stop truly listening (preferring to just interpret everything through my own lense). I get bossy and controlling. I get stressed. I start to feel like all responsibility for the entire worlds happiness relies on me. When I notice that, I can see how ridicuous I’m being and reign myself (and my ego) back into the moment. It’s almost as if being “in the moment” makes the ego disappear. Which I think is what Eckert Tolle’s, A New Earth was all about.
- Never Give Up.
Go as hard as you can, as long as you can, until the last second because THOSE are the people who win. Now, in context, this is not hard for me. I don’t work crazy long hours. I don’t even consider it work. IT does require effort. Like a favorite friend of mine said, it is “effortless, but requires effort.” Meaning it’s easy, but you still have to put action into it. LIFE is the exact same. It doesn’t have to be hard. But the people who are happy, healthy, successful and wealthy kept at it longer than their competition.
If you want that “gold medal” you have to put inspired action to work for you. Quit holding back and waiting for the perfect time (there will never be one) and don’t let someone else tell you how to live your life. You know what you have to do.
I can’t say this as a fact, but isn’t there a story of someone who fell or tripped in an event in the past, all thoughts of medals were gone. The person got back up and continued anyway, only to come in first or second place…people were disqualified, others fell…Am I crazy or just making it up? It does make for a good story if it is true! This also brings us to my third point.
- Crazy Things Can Happen (aka You Never Know What the Future Holds )
When Canada won the second gold medal, something really amazing was said. Maelle Ricker (Women’s Snow Cross) has enjoyed the sport since she was a child and always dreamed of going to the Olympics and winning a gold medal. This is all great and not uncommon, EXCEPT that until 1998 snow boarding wasn’t an Olympic sport. And Snow Cross wasn’t a sport in the olympics until 2006. So despite her current reality and all that people told her, she dreamt of and olympic gold one day. I think that says a lot about our dreams and how powerful they are if we have faith in them. Maelle didn’t have to worry about HOW it would happen, she just new it would and prepared herself for when it happened.
- Have Faith in Your Dreams.
Like I said in the above point, have a little faith. Even though it doesn’t look like your dream will ever come true, you have to keep going. Act like it is coming true. Prepare for it. The HOW is not up to you, but you have to be ready and follow inspired action. People will try to bring you down. They will tell you to be realistic and to look around at the current reality of the situation. You don’t have to believe them. You don’t even have to listen. Follow your dreams, have faith in what you believe!
So those are my Olympic epiphanies. Feels really good to know that I am on the right track and that others, in really admirable places, follow the same advice from their sport psychologists, as I follow (and teach) as a coach. I guess I am a coach. That’s what I do. If you need help getting your own epiphany (or just want happiness and harmony in your life), join me for the free Happiness & Harmony Makeover call. Sweep up the old before you invite in the new!
I have been doing a mini-facelift on my house for the last week.
I intentionally set up my house using Feng Shui; I make sure I do the best I can to get the proper energy flow. This year, my Feng Shui adviser is Katie Weber (http://redlotusletter.com). I purchased her Money Map & 2010 Success Pack and have been changing re-doing, painting and cleaning for the last 10 days.
But today is the end. No more cleaning or painting, at least not for a couple of days. Which brings me to this purpose of this post.
It is a NEW chance for you to adjust your life vision for 2010. Today is Chinese New Years Eve. Which means you need to get your physical and mental stuff in order! It’s a great time to clarify your purpose for 2010 and zero in on exactly what you want and create your plan to get it. I did exactly that.
I switched offices, painted, and feng shui-ed to my hearts content. This morning I am cleaning up the rest of my house. Paying particular attention to my wealth zone (which happens to be in my hall way and 2 closets.) So I purged, organized, swept and scrubbed. Can’t be wealthy if you’re feeling yucky.
So if you have started the year off feeling a bit “yucky” give your house a good clean out today. Sweep the floors, vacuum the carpets, mop, dust and if you’re feeling ambitious, clean your windows. That will “sweep out” the bad luck and make everything shiny and inviting for the Chinese new year tomorrow. (It’s important you do it today because if you do it tomorrow, it’s considered to be “sweeping out the good luck with the bad.”
So that is my take on another free way for you to change the flow of your life. It all starts in the physical, which is just a representation of the mental. So if your physical space is clutter, dirty and dull, what does that say about how you are feeling as a person?
I’m covering all of this and even more in my Master LIFE Cleanse, which starts in a couple of weeks. Go to http://www.themasterLIFEcleanse.com to learn more or sign up to join us. It is so important to sweep out the old, before you can shine up and invite in the new!
