• “I love her, but I dread spending time with her…”
• “But, we’ve been friends FOREVER…”
• “I never feel like she truly listens to me, but she never fails to call me at 3am after another bad break up.”
• “He only calls me when he needs money.”
• “I dread meetings with him. He manages to make me feel so inadequate…”

I get at least one email with a similar example per month, from someone who is unsure if they’re in a toxic relationship, and what to do about it.

The basic question they’re asking is: Should I Stay? or Should I Go? And they’re looking for permission to do what their heart is already whispering: This person isn’t good for you. Get out now!

But the guilt sets in. Followed by the rational excuses to stay:

• You’re a nice person.
• You don’t want to hurt their feelings.
• You don’t want to deal with the drama.
• You can’t leave your job right now.
• It’s better to have negative contact than NO contact…at least this way you know they’re okay.

And on and on go the reasons to put up with this hurtful, harmful treatment.

Because only YOU can truly know the answer, I won’t give you a concrete Yes or No answer on how to identify and deal with a toxic relationship. I will give you 4 questions to help you assess if this is a toxic person for you (remember: toxic doesn’t mean they’re bad people…just bad for you, right now) and how invested you are in trying to save it.

Consider: Physical and Emotional reaction when with Person X. List 5 normal reactions for each. Then ask:

1. What am I getting out of this relationship? (Why am I still allowing this relationship, if I have already identified it as toxic.)

2. Do I truly care about the survival of this relationship, or has it just been something I’ve unconsciously continued with?

3. Do I cherish this person and everything they offer for me?

4. Am I willing to possibly do all the work in this relationship to make it work? Do I take full responsibility for my part and still (honestly) wish to continue?

I hate to say it, but if you don’t like your life (business, relationship, neighbourhood, job….) you are the only one responsible for changing it. That means that you have to do something different, to get different results.

Here is what will happen when you try something different: YOU WILL GET IN YOUR OWN WAY!

Unless you have total, unbiased, non-judgmental support from an outside source to keep your momentum up, your lizard brain will thwart your attempts to change. Watch out for these two lizard brain traits so that you can be aware of them and create a plan to beat them at their own game!

These Two things will stop good intentions EVERY TIME

1) “It’s Not That Bad”

When things get hard, it is so much easier to settle back into the comfortable routine and think to yourself, ‘Well, I don’t really need to lose weight. There are people worse off than me.’ Or ‘You know, I don’t really want to run a marathon, that’s just something on everyone’s bucket list.’

And that gives you automatic permission NOT to change a thing…because you’re already gloriously happy, just as you are.

Except you’re not. It’s your brain tricking you into think that you are.

I’m not arguing against being happy where you are, totally the opposite! If you are truly, 100% happy at your current weight, fitness level and musical ability then you do not need to change a thing. But don’t fake it and use it as an excuse to remain the same, because that definitely won’t make you happy.

If you are crying yourself to sleep, struggling to get up every morning to go to a job you hate, fighting with your spouse more than you’re cuddling…it IS that bad. Time to try something new.

2) Inertia: what got you here will not get you there.

I know that most people think there is an innate drive for success and happiness. This is a total lie. There is only an innate drive for ‘more of the same.’ It’s a matter of high school physics: An object in motion remains in motion unless another object interjects.

You will not lose 10 lbs or learn to play the violin by thinking about how much you want it. You have to fight the inertia and take action. The same is true with every goal.

If you want to make more money, you have to do something different.

If you want a better relationship with your spouse you have to do something different.

If you want a beautiful, organized home you must do something different!

What got you here, will not get you there.

You have to take purposeful, strategic action to change your life.

Soul is everywhere lately.  They have even named a car – Soul.  What does it all mean?  What is Soul? How can we tap into our Soul to transform our lives?

For me, the simple answer is living in SOUL is living without struggle. That’s living without struggling about money, happiness, and YOUR relationships.

Living consciously in YOUR soul is easy because there’s nothing to do but be YOU, listen to YOU, be aware and create conscious choice.

I have spent the last several years getting to know my Soul better and guiding others in this process (via Soul Language). I will spend the rest of my life continuing this process. I’m an infinite. I am enough.  How do I know this?  It’s because I have heard it (and I believe it and I have seen it) from my Soul.

How can you meet your Soul? How can you have a better relationship with you?  What will that mean for your life and your business?  What happens for me is that I’m no longer filled with consuming anger.  I have more appropriate boundaries,  experience my worth more easily (this results in receiving more), and I’m much more at peace in my life.

Below are three ways for you to MEET your Soul and to start developing this profound relationship.

Be Quiet

I’m a Gleek (that means I love Glee).  The other night when my DVR messed up the recording I was sad, yes. And, I was also glad I got to spend more time with me.  Tuning in and turning off. Listening to what my Soul had to say. If you don’t know how to get started listening, just ask the simple question, “What awareness can my Soul share with me today?”

So turn off the TV, the radio, the cell phone, the Blackberry, AND the computer. Now, tune in to YOU. Spend one minute just being still, RELAX and feel what it is like to be YOU!

Roll Down the Window

I’m action oriented.  All that action can sometimes create hardship on my journey.  Are you going through life too fast?  What timeframe are you living in?  Miracles and manifestation are created in the present time. So, get in your car and go for a drive (with the radio off). Roll down the windows and feel the wind as it floats around your skin. Feel what is like to be ALIVE.

See The Beauty

My Soul feels like an amazing day on the beach.  I often can forget that while waiting in line at the post office.  And yet, that is the perfect time to be reminded of the beauty that is all around us.  Take time each day to understand that you are creating the beauty.  That your life is not happening to you.  When you become a co-creator, you can create magic out of thin air.

Make it a point to notice at least one thing a day something beautiful and fully enjoy that beauty.  Do not rush by it. Embrace it. Let it fill your heart.  This will go a long way to help you create, manifest and celebrate!

If you set the intention to have a deeper connection with yourself, everything will show up to help you achieve that desire.
