All Relationships Start Within
I was asked to participate in a book tour by interviewing the author on Authentic Self ratio.
The book: Hindsight: What You Need to Know Before You Drop Your Drawers
The Author: Maryanne Comaroto
This isn’t a book review blog (although I am looking forward to talking with Maryanne next week on the show). Instead I want to talk about a quote that Maryanne repeats throughout the book. “Relationships begin within.”
When I first read that quote I thought, “Wow. Powerful and so true.” If you don’t know your authentic self, how can you ever have an honest relationship?
If you are currently in a relationship and haven’t worked on the “inside” first, one person would constantly be pretending or giving in. Now, I’m not saying that compromise is bad. I believe fully in compromising, especially when it comes to “small stuff.” BUT, you can compromise in a way that doesn’t compromise your authentic self. You can create a solution that everyone feels good about, without tearing the other person apart.
Now for my wonderful ladies not currently in relationships, this quote means something else. It means that you really need to figure out the underlying foundation that you want in a relationship (not necessarily in a specific partner — that is, ditch the perfect man list). Instead of thinking you want a blue-eyed blond, create a feeling that you get from this relationship. Base it on what you want in life. If you value your freedom, how does a relationship support this?
I just want to put it out there. Are you authentic in your relationship? Can you be yourself and know that you are loved unconditionally, or are there unsaid (or said) conditions? Thoughts?
Listen to our interview next Wednesday (October 21 @ 4:30 MT, http://www.blogtalkradio.com/authentic-self).
How to Set ANY Relationship Up for Long Term Success
Today on Authentic Self radio I am talking to Marie Forleo. Through her dynamic training products and coaching programs, Marie educates and inspires with a rare mix of humor,
wisdom, and razor-sharp insight. She is well known for her down to earth, tell-it-like-it-is style. Marie is the Fox News online relationship expert as well as the author of Make Every Man Want You: How To Be So Irresistible You’ll Barely Keep From Dating Yourself! Which is the topic for today’s show! It’s a really fun, light hearted book that will get you in authentic self mode in no time.
Ladies, it’s not just for single gals either…I’m married (and my husband thought I was nuts, but I told him it was research
) and I got a lot out of it. It is a simple, easy to read guide to living authentically. It just happens to also be a relationship book.
Definitely check it out whether you’re looking for a relationship or not. Now Marie’s book is not the topic for this post, but the theme. The book (and Marie too) is all about being yourself. And that really is the key to a long lasting, satisfying relationship. You can’t go in pretending to be something you’re not. If you don’t like jazz music, it’s okay. Don’t pretend to like it and then spend the next 6 months (or 6 years) listening to stuff that makes you cringe. Same with food, movies, sports, friends. Value yourself and your opinions enough to be honest. If you have to pretend to get someone to like you, they don’t really like YOU!
The secret is to be yourself. That it. Be your regular, fun loving, authentic self! When you are focused on what is in front of you, and being the very best YOU that you can be at that moment, you’ll naturally attractive. Men love a gal who is comfortable in her own skin, has an opinion, is kind, and loves to have fun. That describes you, I know it does!
Check out today’s show to find out more information, you will love every minute of this interview, I promise!!!

Last night I got really inspired to create a video. So I did. I was my regular, authentic self on a Sunday night. I didn’t do my hair. I didn’t change out of my university sweatshirt. I did do something that I was passionate about–talk about the authentic self!!! You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to do it!
